Cowon X5 w 240GB SSD - need help/advice with compiling
Hogwash:
Hello all,
this is my first post, so again: hi folks !
I only recently successfully pimped my Cowon X5 60Gb with an 240GB SSD
http://www.mx-technology.com/en/product/ssd2.php?sid=5#fragment-13.
It is working ok so far, I just had two freezes (one while changing themes, the other while selecting a song) and when I chose a song it takes more than 10 seconds to load, so I guess I should do something to improve performance...
So here's my question(s):
1- Should I compile my own version of rockbox ?
2- What would be the benefit of that ? (As I understand it I compile on my computer, so how does that change the rockbox build on mx X5?)
3- Most important: What can I do to better implement the SSD into rockbox ?
I did find some hints in the forum on my topic, but most of it is rather outdated (poor old X5 ;) ) so I thought it would be wise to start a new thread.
I simply formatted the SSD to fat32, installed with rockbox-utility and it worked right away, so I guess it's just some small tweaks that have to be done, right ?
Hach - I am so excited: installed the SSD, found a 1300mAh battery that fits my X5 (but yet has to be installed) - so after years using my X7 I am thrilled to return to my dear X5 !
I hope someone can help or maybe has done a similar thing. Any help is highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Karsten
saratoga:
Are you planning on doing rockbox development? If not, there is probably not much point in compiling. The code in git will give you an identical binary to what the download server provides (builds are actually done on individual users PCs).
Hogwash:
Thanks Saratoga.
No development planned really.
I am pretty happy with rockbox the way it is.
The only thing I would change or add is maybe the support for large drives and SSDs.
If that makes sense...
Basically, what I want to know is what lines to add (and where) to improve the performance of my SSD.
Hogwash:
Hmm - anybody ?
sorry, I know my DAP is rather old, so maybe not too many people are into it anymore... but still perhaps someone has done a similar thing or has a helpful hint to some place in the www.
Cheers

I don't think its realistic to expect someone to be able yo tell you how to improve ssd performance. You'll likely have to debug this yourself unless someone has by chance used a similar ssd and already solved the problem.
