Gigabeat S
« on: November 15, 2013, 08:23:04 PM »
I got a gigabeat s in perfect condition for very cheap on craig's list.  I can not make heads or tails of the install ....  when I install it ..... everything goes fine until I restart ....then it goes into rovery mode...  I see a lot of posts on this .... but none seem to have a specific answer.

any one got some thoughts on this??

Need more details.  I assume you have read through http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,28306.0.html

Pretend you're him and answer bluebrother's questions for us.  Did you install the dual boot bootloader?  Have you checked the filesystem for errors?

yup I did read all that .... but things are a little different for me

when I install with beastpatcher -d (on windows 7)  it opens another window which closes very dast so I'm not sure it works ... in fact I get nothing.

It installs to the single boot method using beastpatcher ... without the -d ..... and then I can put rockbox on ...and when I unplug the DAP it reboots straight to rockbox .....perfect ... THEN ... when I power down the player and bring it back up it goes straight into "recovery"mode .......and I have to do the beastpatcher again.....rockbox stays put ..... and boot immediately after running beast patcher again ...... but then goes through the same thing if I power down

I am using a copy of NK.bin .... from the player ... as there isn't a firmware connected to the toshiba link any more..... I have played with re formatting the player using using both the 1.2 and the 1.3 versions on the updater tool from toshiba ..... both have the same results

this is silly but I haven't tried running the beastpatcher in "xp" mode on windows 7 ...... could that be something?

thanks for the help

I haven't done it on 7.  Launch a command prompt in compatibility mode with administrator privileges.

ok ..... hold the phone ... i think i got it .......  I have booted several times now ... into rockbox fine...   seems there was something with the version of nk.bin i was using ....  I didn't realize i couldn't use the version that was on the device to start.... and that I could use 7zip to un compress the updater.exe and get a fresh copy of nk.bin .....  i realize it was in a couple posts... but it didn't compute...  player looks great ...thanks for all the help...
