Can't skip or go to next or previous songs
« on: November 14, 2013, 11:43:55 AM »
Hello,

I am having a problem with Rockbox 3.13 on my clip zip. The next and previous buttons do not work when being tapped to go to the next or previous song. However, if I hold either button down I can still move through the song.

Thanks for the help!

Did you enable the "Prevent track skipping" option?

Can you provide the full contents of the .rockbox/config.cfg file on the player?

# .cfg file created by rockbox 3.13 - http://www.rockbox.org

volume: -51
repeat: ab
eq peak filter 2: 125, 11, 0
eq peak filter 6: 2000, 10, 5
wps: /.rockbox/wps/peakpink.wps
sleeptimer duration: 90
sleeptimer on startup: on
keypress restarts sleeptimer: on
prevent track skip: on

Says prevent track skip is on even though I made sure it was on "no" in the settings.

Delete the "prevent track skip" entry from the config file, save it and rock and roll.

I deleted it and I still cannot change songs.

What is the exact name and path of the file you're looking at?

Do you also have a \.rockbox\fixed.cfg file?  That will override the config.cfg file.

Also when you reboot rockbox, has the contents of the config.cfg file been changed?

I do not have a fixed.cfg file.

The config.cfg file did change, the "prevent track skip: on" line is still gone after restarting it. However, I still cannot change songs.

That is very strange.  What if you just delete the config.cfg file?  And check the file system for errors?

I deleted config.cfg and the problem still persists.

I ran a chkdsk on H:\ (my sansa clip zip):

Windows is verifying files and folders...
File and folder verification is complete.
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

3,926,044,672 bytes total disk space.
8,192 bytes in 2 hidden files.
      208,896 bytes in 50 folders.
  347,385,856 bytes in 414 files.
3,578,437,632 bytes available on disk.

4,096 bytes in each allocation unit.
958,507 total allocation units on disk.
873,642 allocation units available on disk.

I just checked my player after leaving it alone for awhile and I can now move between songs! I guess deleting the config file worked because my theme reset but the buttons were working again. I just reselected my theme and everything is fine now. Thanks for the help :)
