Fuze (v2): Wheel Light LED turns off even if set to 'on'
« on: November 13, 2013, 03:32:11 PM »
Greetings people of Rockbox,

I just got my Fuze a few days ago and immediately installed Rockbox. I've had an e200 for a good 5 years before this and felt right at home.

Anyway my question is about the Fuze's blue LED wheel light. I want to have it on no matter what. The e200 and Fuze both have settings to set the Wheel Light Timeout to 'ON'. In the e200 this would make the blue LED stay on in the following cases:
1) Even if the display times out and turns off, the wheel light LED would stay on.
2) Sliding onto hold also kept the wheel light to stay on.

On the Fuze (3.13) the Wheel Light turns OFF even when set to 'on' in the settings. So in the above two cases it would do the following instead:
1) When display times out and turns off, wheel light LED goes off as well. Even when Wheel Light Timeout is set to 'on'. In a similar example, if Backlight setting is 10 seconds but Wheel Light Timeout is set to 30 seconds (or 'on'), the wheel light blue LED turns off WITH the display at 10 seconds.
2) Sliding Fuze into Hold turns off Wheel Light even when Wheel Light Timeout is set to 'on'.

So in the time span that i installed Rockbox onto my e200 and Fuze, were these behaviors considered 'issues' and made it behave like the Fuze or is this some sort of bug?

Any help is appreciated.

PS. I tried doing multiple searches on the forums but couldn't really find anyone else with the same "issue".

I can't comment on the cause of this, this definitely sounds like a bug if the "on" setting for the wheel light is being ignored.
You should certainly consider reporting this in the bug tracker located on the left of this very page, under the Development header.

I did want to ask though, irrespective of the fact that your desired set-up is currently being ignored, are you aware of how seriously this affects the total battery life of the device? The wheel light and the LCD are the two biggest contenders for power use on this device. Having the wheel light on full time is going to make a very noticeable difference in runtime (when functioning how you would like it to).

But, that's not to say it shouldn't be fixed. If the setting is offered, and ignored, its a bug.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

Awesome, thanks. I thought it might not be right. I'll attempt to create a bug report.

I do realize that it'll drain it more then with it off. With the e200 not only was the LED blinding at night, it did noticeably drain the battery. But the Fuze seems much more dim and I'd like to at least see if  it doesn't drain as much and if I can handle or get used to the lessened battery life.

thanks again.
