Search function not working? (Messed up database?)

(1/1)

jeffmangum:
Seems like the search function aint working on my Sansa Clip+
Some tracks are searchable (i noticed its searchable when i have the whole album. and the single songs arent im not sure).

And i noticed that the database function isnt being useful on mine. Like sometimes, if theres a playing song, the "same as current" fucntion is not working. Even the "history" function aint workling. Like most played tracks, etc.

Both these features certainly do work, and work well.

In regard to the "Same as current" function, this relies on your metadata being correct. It can only make a match if it has other fields to match to *exactly*. If this fails for you, its almost certainly because there is no matching data anywhere else in the Database.

For instance:

"Artist Name"
will not match with,
"Artist Name "
or,
"artist name"
or,
"Artist Name."

In regard to the "History" function, this relies on you first enabling the preservation of runtime data:

Settings -> General Settings -> Database -> Gather Runtime Data -> Yes

The manual for your device describes this.

jeffmangum:
Does the database feature of it relies on the Tags of the mp3s? Cause i havent really tagged them correctly.
As for the search function, it also searches for the tag? But im pretty sure not all of my mo3s arent tagged.

silvertree:
The database will not be very useful without properly tagged files.

Yes.

This is the reason you are having issues with features that rely on metadata.

Yes.

Then the database is of very little use to you. Use the File Browser, or tag your media correctly.
