iRiver H3xxx and Kingspec SSD
« on: November 03, 2013, 04:11:48 PM »
Hi,

I want to upgrade my DAP, but I need the OTG feature from original firmware as rockbox does not support OTG, and other mods like CF or SD to IDE don't work with orginal firmware.

I have already searched the forum, but could someone confirm that this SSD http://www.kingspec.com/en/product_xx160.html will work with both original firmware and rockbox ?

Thanks,

The iRiver original firmware does not work with any flash memory as far as I can tell, whether CF or SSD.  It will not recognize it as a valid disk (you get the error message "Check HDD").  You will still get the OF operating, since it resides in the ROM of the device, while Rockbox resides on the HDD, CF, or SSD.  But the OF will not read any data (e.g., play any music) from the SSD.  I still like to switch into the OF for recharging, since it displays a nice big message while charging and when charging is complete.  But that's pretty limited functionality.

I'd recommend installing a Toshiba MK2431GAH 240GB 1.8" hard drive. It will give you plenty of capacity and it works with the original firmware as well as Rockbox. You will need the thicker back case found on the H340 to make it fit. It also requires a zif adapter.

I now have a KingSpec 128GB 50-pin IDE SSD.  I can confirm that H340 iRiver original firmware cannot see the disk.  I put it in my H140 instead as I already installed RB to the ROM and there is no USB OTG or other facility lost.
