Rockbox MP3 Playback
« on: October 29, 2013, 12:54:17 AM »
Hello everyone I just joined this forum to ask a very important question. I was wondering where the mp3 codec in rockbox's newest versions came from? I was also wondering about the quality of the codecs because I had noticed distortion in the low end when playing back a song in my car. With the original firmware I am able to playback music on the highest volume without it distorting and it has very very low bass extension and the treble sounds a bit clearer. Whereas when playing back with rockbox at around 0 volume the very lowest notes in my music not only sounded muddy but also made my subwoofer sound terrible and the signal was clipping. The bass would also not extend as low. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section I was just very curious about this. Thank you for reading my post and hopefully I can get some answers to this. :P

Save a configuration file and post it here.  There are lots of ways one can modify the sound in Rockbox so let's take a look at what you've selected.  When people post similar "issues" to what you're describing here it is most often a less-than-ideal audio setting.

0 db corresponds to line level so if you go that high you can clip. Particularly if you are using eq.
