Some questions about Rockbox
« on: October 13, 2013, 05:56:42 AM »
Please read my second post for the questions

-----

I thought it was gonna be easy installing on my Clip+ using the automatic rockbox installation. But its looking for a bin file of the OF. I dont know what to download. I downloaded this bin file on: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS (clipplus01.02.16.zip)
Is that ok? Regardless of what my clip+ version is?

I just wanna make sure cause i dont want to brick my device since i just bought it few days ago.

edit: Also, what drive letter should I mount? Cause im in MSC mode, there are two drives, F and H. F for the sansa itself, and H for the SD card.
What should i choose?

And how much free space should I have on the internal memory? How about the sd card? Should i have free space on that?

Rockbox Utility should have pointed you here.

If you don't deviate from the instructions given, there is a very small risk of this happening.

Ideally Rockbox Utility's autodetection should do this for you, however, you want to use the devices internal storage.

You need at least as much space free as the patched OF binary and Rockbox itself will occupy, ~100MB should be adequate for both.
Go nuts with the sdcard, If you don't care about using the OF for playback just remember to eject the sdcard first if you cram it with files - it'll only make booting the OF and refreshing the database that little bit more painful.

I've successfully installed it. I really really like this rockbox thing! Some questions:

1. Where is the "play all" button? Where it plays ALL songs on shuffle. Cause I don't really listen by album. And if I want to listen to this song, why does it queue only the songs from that folder as opposed to queuing all songs?

2. I wanna try gapless playback feature but I don't really notice it. Do I need to encode my mp3s?

3. Why am I seeing this horizontal line separating blue and yellow? Its weird. Like in the picture flow plugin (which I love) but it looks messed up. Or is really that way cause the screen is small?

4. Can I make playlists on my pc then transferring it to my sansa? Let's say I have a "night" playlist, I'd choose from various folders. Like one song from album X and another song from album Y etc.

I would recommend reading our fine manual.

Please, this subforum is about installation using Rockbox Utiltiy. Don't mix unrelated questions here, start a new thread instead. Otherwise it's much harder to figure / find relevant posts.
