Problem with Clip+ and USB Connection
« on: October 08, 2013, 08:16:07 AM »
Hello,

I'm using the Clip+ with Rockbox 3.13 and Windows 8. I have problems with connecting the player to my PC via USB. There appear several cases:
The player is recognised as Rockbox Media Player, but the explorer doesn't show the drives for player and microSD-card.
The player is recognised correctly.
The player is not recognised and shows the following on the screen: Undefined instruction pc: 0000003C sp: 3000008 btend (count of 0 might not be correct)

Even if it's working allright, it might be that after I remove the device safely, the player freezes with the "USB-connected-display" and can only be restarted after pressing the power-button for like 10 seconds. Otherwise it shows the undefined instruction lines.

I just reinstalled the bootloader and RB again via the Utility, but the problem remains, regardless of whether the player is off or on when I connect it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

If its not working on your system, you'll need to use the sandisk firmware for USB.

Hi.
Using 3.13 on clip+.
Sometimes i see errors when:
Player is turned off sd card inside, connect it to PC with win or linux, player turnes on and goes to main menu.
It won't recognize as disk drive.
On linux there:
[ 1974.884334] hub 4-2:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -71)
[ 1974.888585] hub 4-2:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -71)

But if we turn it on before connection to pc then all goes normal.

Is it normal behaviour?

I'm curious if today's USB fix makes any difference.

It won't. That one only fixes a bug that while it was present all along only started making any difference about two weeks ago (the function that wasn't called at the right time did nothing at all before that).

However there have been lots of changes since 3.13, so testing a current development build is probably useful anyway.

Well, i can get another clip+ for testing purposes, but for now i prefer wait for stable official release like 3.13 was.
I found roadmap in flyspray, it looks like it's almost here, so may be there is some sense for wait a little bit?

We haven't decided when we'll do a new release, but you're welcome to wait.

Hello guys, sorry for my pathetic english.
I had the same problems as you guys, but I found solution. When you are installing software of rockbox, you HAVE TO UNCHECK additionals fonts and themes - just install clean rockbox software. Then you will see, that usb connection works fine for all versions of windows (checked for win 7 pro 32 & 64 bit and win 8 pro 64 bit).

Otherwise, just uninstall rockbox software (leave bootloader in peace) and install again clean rockbox software. So the problems with usb connection are creating by some fonts, themes or cfg file of it - I'm sure guys, I tried 1000 times.

Weird, never thought it could have been related with Themes or Fonts, in the meantime I will try to see if the bugs comes from this unusual cause.

But if i will have no theme, my clip+ not so usable.

I'll stress once again what geaverts said - a few nasty memory corruptions were fixed since 3.13 so WE WOULD LOVE to have feedback from those suffering theme-usb interraction. Please try current development build and report back. Thanks.

wodz and gevaerts have right. The newest development build really works, even with additional fonts and themes, so you can keep your favorites (with working usb connection of course). Just upgrade your rockbox software to development version. Thanks! ;]

Well, installed dev build.
No any errors for now on win7 and linux box attached directly.
But if i turn off device and connect it via dlink dub-h7 usb hub i get this:
Jan 15 20:43:25 puma kernel: usb 4-2.2: new high-speed USB device number 19 using ehci-pci
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: Cannot enable port 2.  Maybe the USB cable is bad?
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot disable port 2 (err = -71)
Jan 15 20:43:26 puma kernel: hub 4-2:1.0: cannot reset port 2 (err = -71)

If i connect device while sansa is on it's connect ok.

oh, while copy few gb from pc with win7 to connected rockbox into microsd, it's just disconnects. Just error about this disk in windows log after copying only 1.5gb to microsd inserted in sansa. :(

If i insert this sd into pc cardreader all goes fine.

After powering off win7 (it cannot safely remove device) looks like clip+ hang with usb picture on it. Only reset helps.

Well next tests series:
I have 4gb version of clip+.
When i copy files in internal memory (ejected sd card) onmy win7 book, looks like no any errors.
When i copy files in sd card that inserted in player, only approx 1,5 gb i can write on sansa and it disconnects or hang.

There is transcend 32gb 10 class.

P.S. Switch on sandisk firmware and there is no errors while transfer.
