Cowon X5 - Line Out volume control
« on: December 16, 2013, 05:27:51 AM »
Hi everyone!

I'm using my rockboxed Cowon X5L mainly as music source for my Pioneer AV receiver. I've got a docking station with a LINE OUT.
My problem is: I've noticed that changing the volume in Rockbox does not affect the Line out volume at all. As the volume coming from my Cowon DAP is significantly lower than the rest of the audio sources connected to my amp, I have to increase the volume on my amp a lot every time I use it.
My question now is: Is there ANY way that Line Out volume can be controlled in Rockbox? That would make usage a LOT easier, since I could adjust the volume level to the other music sources connected to my AV receiver.

Thanks in advance!

Generally line out is at a fixed volume. If you want volume control, use the headphone out.

Hi saratoga!

Thanks for your quick reply. When I first read it, I wondered how stupid I could be for not having that simple idea myself!
When I finally tried it, unfortunately, I had to find out I doesn't get me very far: The volume from the headphone out is SO low, that even when I turn up the volume to -0db, there is barely any audible sound from my speakers! I don't know if this problem happens with all DAPs or just my Cowon X5, but it looks like there is no real solution to this problem!

Thanks anyway

What are you plugging the player into?  Line out should be the correct volume for an amp with a line in.

Hi saratoga!
I am using a mini-jack-to-RCA (Cinch) cable to connect my Cowon to the inputs of my Pioneer SC-LX76 receiver.
Usually, the Pioneer has a "normal" volume when set to about -43db. In order to reach the same effect with my Cowon connected, I have to go up to -30db.
If I have to switch to a different audio source and forget to set the volume down again, my ears almost explode :-O
I was just wondering if there was a solution to fix this?

Best,

That's not something we can fix, the line out levels are more or less standardized and I don't believe are even under software control on your player.
