add shortcuts to the shuffle-repeat screen
« on: September 28, 2013, 03:35:44 AM »

I'm talking about the screen above.
Now there is a big empty space, and the up and down buttons are not used, my idea is to move the shuffle-repeat buttons on the top or bottom, and to add the custom shortcuts in the empty space; the left and right button will still be used for shuffle and repeat, and the up, down, and select, for the shortcuts.
I think that when entering in this screen, no item should be selected, so if you press select, you will go back as usual.

Here is my mock-up

Pretty sure this won't happen, for at least two reasons:

1 - The two unused slots in the Quick Screen are there so that the user may supply their own options in the Quick Screen if they desire to do so*. Indeed both the shuffle and repeat options can be replaced as well.

2 - You can already replace the Quick Screen with the Shortcuts menu, in which you may add shortcuts to whatever items you so please.

I assume (which is dangerous, I know) that you were unaware of one or both of these points, and indeed if neither of the points listed above existed this may have increased functionality indeed. However the way things are, and given that the two points listed above are both valid, while this suggestion doesn't reduce functionality it doesn't add any functionality that wasn't already present either.

* Note: The manual refers to the "Show Files" option being present in the quickscreen, this is erroneous, it used to be true but this default option was removed because users kept on accidentally changing the show files setting and then claiming that rockbox "ate their files".

Thank you.

No need to apologize my dear, none at all. Wipe those tears. It happens to the best of us.

In fact, I apologize if I made you feel you needed to do so.

If you haven't yet done so, taking the time to browse over our fine manual can indeed be an eye opening experience for many users. I didn't read any more than I felt I needed to initially, which was little more than the installation section, ...until people started telling me about features I had been unaware of for months. :)

And, lastly, as I forgot to mention this in my initial post: Thank you for your suggestion.

The fact that you suggested almost exactly what is already implemented is a reasonable indication that Rockbox is on the right track, in this area at least. Which I find pleasing.

there is a problem with the Shortcuts as quickscreen, the Home button doesn't work, i have to use the Power button, and it doesn't return to the previous screen, but in the main menu...
The Shortcuts as Quickscreen should work like a floating menu as the normal Quickscreen actually do...
