ipod video(5th generation 30 gb)...
« on: September 20, 2013, 01:14:06 PM »
i have searched high and low on severe battery drain. i dont get it. if i use the apple firmware, i can use the ipod for hours and hours. once i switch over to rockbox, i'm lucky to get 5 minutes. why in the hell would it do that? i played with screen brightness and battery settings. what can i do to fix this? like i said before, using apple firmware, i have great battery life... this battery cell is not dead lol

Why bother? All it's gonna show us the battery draining in less than 30 seconds. No pointers?

It will show us voltage levels.

Pointers?  You have a problem which nobody else does.  We need more information.  Save your .cfg file and post it here.

ok... waiting on the new cover and lcd to get here. battery arrived today. installed it. battery is holding up 10 times better than before but... it still drains a little faster than running apple ios. i set the battery to 900 mah. i'm thinking the real rating for this new battery is 450 mah. how do i get the complete graph to post here? my lcd is screwed up. top of the screen is blacked out. hard to read all the settings. the eq settings on rockbox is insane!!!! you boost bass or treble and it will blow your ears out!!! perfect for death metal lol

Changing this value is basically irrelevant, it has no effect on the battery level shown to the user, nor is it used in calibration.
The only place this value is used is to display the estimated runtime in the System -> Debug (Keep Out!) -> View battery screen, which in most cases is a best-effort guess.

I think you are misunderstanding what (was) being asked for (but is now irrelevant since you replaced the battery). AlexP was asking for the results of the battery_bench plugin, from Plugins -> Applications -> battery_bench.

the eq settings on rockbox is insane!!!! you boost bass or treble and it will blow your ears out!!!

The Rockbox EQ is a parametric EQ, an improper understanding of how a parametric EQ works, and how to configure it, will result in a massive CPU hit - and your device has very little CPU headroom (this {among other things} may indeed be one of the reasons why your runtime is/was so crap). Rockbox has many settings that will adversely affect the runtime if improperly configured, and some users seem to have a habit of going through the settings and applying everything they come across.

Every processing effect comes at a cost (compressor, crossfeed, dithering, EQ, stereo width, etc.), the key is understanding what each does, how it should be configured, and whether or not it is actually required for your use case.

If all you are wanting to do is boost the bass and/or treble, it is recommended that you use the dedicated bass and/or trebel controls which will have the same effect at much less CPU cost.

wow... i'm pissed! got the new hard drive yesterday. installed it, get the sad face and says very low battery. it wont hold a charge and it doesnt show up on my computer or itunes so i can restore. what the hell did i do wrong! i bought a new lcd, battery and a hard drive for this ipod. i charged the battery all night. when i unplug the ipod, the screen slowly fades out to black. plug it back in and i get a very dim apple symbol then the sad face. when into diagnostic mode... says battery is at 3908 mha. very odd. i hate apple!

do a full restore using itunes , reinstall rockbox , do not use eq leave all settings stock, fully charge player while it is paused over night. try using it with out the eq, see if it plays for a long time, if you are still getting weirdness it is prob your players motherboard. just get another one on ebay.
