FiiO X3 vs Ipod Classic 5.5G - Sound Quality

Good Morning,

since two days i have a Fiio X3 at home and play a bit a around with it.

Now i am interest if a other user have or had the chance to try it.

What do you think about the Sound Quality, especially in comparison to Ipod Classic 5.5G ?

My Test Equipment:

Headphones: Bose AE2, AKG Q701, Sennheiser HD 650
Headamp: FiiO E12 (Mont Blanc) & Lake People G103-S
Device: FiiO X3 & Ipod Classic 5.5G (Rockbox & CF Mod)

Iam very curious for our opinion :)

P.S: Please no Fanboy discussion. I also love Rockbox :)

The 5.5G has a fairly poor output amp by modern standards, although not terrible for its time.  Almost any modern player will beat it. 

Of course if you use an amp then the output of the player is largely irrelevant.

the ipod 5.5 sounds amazing when you boost the treble just a bit using the rockbox eq.
