iRiver h140 USB issues

Hey, so I have an iRiver 140, using the 1.66FW. Rockbox is an older version, somewhere in 2011 IIRC.
So it has been lying in my drawer for a while now, but I took it out today, charged it, and playback was fine. One issue though - it doesn't show up on my computer as a disk drive, using a new mini-USB cable. No-show in diskmgmt.msc either.
Computer is using Windows 8, I tried it on an ancient Windows XP laptop, no luck there either. The device itself goes into USB Disk mode, in both Rockbox and the original firmware.

Any help with this? Possible issue with the player itself?
