iPod 5.5g 80gb install permission denied

(1/1)

First, I'm new here, so, a quick thanks to all the people who have been developing this software- I haven't used it yet but it looks great and I'm excited to get going. thank you.

I am trying to install on my iPod 5.5g  80gb.  I formatted FAT32 on a friends machine (I'm sure it was FAT32 as my Disk Utility identified it as such) and ran the Rockbox Utility trying to install v3.13 but got a "permission denied" error message. I then tried to install the build alone followed by the bootloader but here again I ran into the "permission denied" message. Every thread I read included the use of sudo commands to get around this but these threads seemed to be messages between people who have a greater knowledge of this stuff than I do (e.g. the suggestion "sudo iPodpatcher, see if that works" is not enough to help me) and I'm hoping someone can help out a novice here?

Also, I am using Mac OSX and I currently have Rockbox Utility in folder on my desktop in a folder called Rockbox,
so, /Users/benq/Desktop/Rockbox/Rockbox Utility

thanks!

UPDATE:

Finally tried again from a Windows machine and everything loaded without problem.  thanks!

Ok, you've already solved this. However, for reference: I'd check if Itunes is still running (if its icon has this "glowing" effect it's still on), and you need to enable direct access to the device in Itunes (something like "I manage the device myself" or the like, haven't checked). Itunes is known to interfere with the bootloader installation. Apart from that, check if you have selected the correct mountpoint. That's the other common cause of these kind of problems :)
