Git and dev builds
« on: September 06, 2013, 06:45:47 AM »
Maybe a stupid question, but:

If I checkout rockbox from Git, do I get the latest release build or the latest dev build? And if it's the release build, how do I grab the dev build?

You'll get the current development tree by default

To be exact: you don't get a build at all. You get the source, and from that you can create a build. Which will by default be the current development version (as gevaerts already said).

You need to build the cross compiler and then follow the instructions at http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/HowToCompile to actually make a build of Rockbox. Alternately you can build the daily builds from http://build.rockbox.org/.

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/DevelopmentGuide

(if you've already setup the tools skip down to the using git portion)

the documentation (http://git-scm.com/book/en/Git-Basics-Getting-a-Git-Repository) say :

Quote
Every version of every file for the history of the project is pulled down when you run git clone. [...] all the versioned data would be there.

ok but how do tell the compiler to use the version i want.

I'm a little bit lost...

All i want is to get the source of the last stable version released and add the options HAVE_LBA48 and HAVE_MULTIVOLUME and also change the ata_power_on() waiting time from 250ms to 500ms so i can use my 4th gen ipod with a big 3.5" disk.

(ps: i already did "git clone ....." and already set up the cross compiler)

All i want is get the source of the last stable version released

git checkout v3.13-final

I'd recommend against doing that though. Especially if you're going to change things, there's no particular reason to pick the last release (which by now is getting a bit old) over current development.

At this point, thats more likely to be the case with the stable version given how old it is.

ok, i'll give it a try as it is.

i have an other question about the ata_power_on() parameter but i probably should create an other topic as this is not the subject here.

anyway, thank you Saratoga !
