How do I get my rockbox to work again?
(1/1)
penguin23:
Hi all,
I have a sansa clip zip, a few days ago rockbox crashed and im desperate to get it back (at least the original firmware still works but it really really sucks...)
What I did to crash it: I removed the SD-card, charged the player and later put the card back in. Since then its bricked (well, almost)
What does rockbox do: Hangs in boot I guess. I see the logo in the top, and in the bottom row it says "er, 3dd5e98-1307". I have tried to jusdt leave it for 20 mins, hoping it would finish booting eventually, but it didn't
The problem is, I'm on a 2 month camping trip, so I can only try to reinstall rockbox in internet cafes. But so far, none of the computers I tried did assign a volume letter to the player, and I'm not sure if there's any way to install rockbox in that case? (I already tried to install a new USB-device-driver via device manager, but that wouldn't work also.)
I really want my rockbox back - Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Put the Sandisk firmware into MSC mode, then check the disk for errors. Its probably a corrupted file system.

I did what you suggested, both the player and the card are error-free.
i also reinstalled Rockbox, but none of this solved the problem, Rockbox still won't boot, while the firmware still works.
(But, in case that has anything to do with the problem, the firmware will update the database every time i turn on the player, very annoying because it takes forever.)
Any other ideas? Is there still something i can do when i already reinstalled Rockbox?
saratoga:
I guess you could format the storage and then reintall. That would reset everything.

hm actually rockbox does boot when i remove the SD-card, so I guess I could copy everything from the card to a computer, format it, and put the music back on.
I'm a little sceptic because i can't really imagine why that would change anything (the card is error-free, i checkdisked it the other day... and remember, the sansa-firmware works flawlessly so it doesnt really seem to be a problem with the card, does it?
Hm on the other hand, the firmware does have this issue that it always refreshes the database when i switch it on. So maybe there is something fishy with that sd-card. Is there anything I can do to check it other than checkdisk? To check it more thouroughly, maybe?
Another idea: Isn't there some rockbox-*.ini or something on the player I could just delete, so that it will just rebuild the database from scratch?
If there's no such file(s) to delete, maybe completely uninstalling rockbox then reinstalling it would fix it?
Sorry for being a bit desperate here - I'm really a music-junky and apparently I'm hard of hearing because with the sansa firmware (which has some stupid Euro-regulations-volume-cap in place) I can hardly hear anything even on quieter streets.
And being forced to do all this rockbox-recovery in internet cafes is quite unnerving and I'd rather avoid moving around 32gb of mp3 (twice). I'm sure there must be a quicker fix?
