Opus 64kbps makes e200 (v1) laggy?

(1/1)

ThaCrip:
Well i tried playing back some OPUS 64kbps encoded music files back on my Sansa e200 series (v1) and while the music plays the player's CPU must be taxed to a high degree simply because the menu's are not responsive like they normally are and are pretty much very unresponsive. you can also see that disc access icon (in top right) seems to stay on to.

is this a glitch in Rockbox or is this normal (like the e200 series don't have enough CPU power?)?

i encoded the files using Foobar2k's conversion function (from .flac source) along with the 'opus-tools 0.1.6' encoder.

p.s. i tried on the newest stable Rockbox v3.13 and a very recent dev build (within the last couple of days) and both do the same thing.

saratoga:
Lack of CPU power.

ThaCrip:
so in other words... Opus is not a real option for those who have a e200 series player.

to bad i did not know this before i spent a decent chunk of time encoding them as i seen it was supported so i just assumed it worked pretty well. but i guess it was my fault for not trying out a test file first.

either way, thanks for your time.

p.s. so i guess ill have to either delete some of my video on my player, which is probably the best option to free up space for music, or ill have to play around with some other codecs at lower bit rates. ill probably find a balance between the two in the end.

gevaerts:
Note that opus support is still fairly new, so it's possible that things will improve as further optimisation work is done

herefornow:
There is still hope. Go to the settings, manage settings, reset settings, select yes(center round button). This will set every setting to original settings, including theme. But you will now be able to play opus with little problem. Small amount of lag at first but good after a minute or so. I use the "Big" theme and it works great for my old eyes.
