Clip+ volume problem with car stereo

My clip+ will start clipping at around -10db (as viewed on the clip+ itself) when connected to my car stereo.  By 'clipping' I mean that it begins cutting out, as soon as I decrease the volume on the clip+ the problem decreases and at around -14db the problem goes away. However at that point I'm left with only a medium volume even when the car stereo volume is at maximum. This same thing happened with my previous clip+. Is there a setting that controls this?

Assuming it works normally with headphones its probably a wiring problem with your stereo.  If it doesn't work with headphones I'd guess something is broken with the player.

Good call. It was indeed a loose auxiliary cable.
