Windows usually automatically mounts drives. But I also know that sometimes Windows Explorer has a weird glitch that cause do not show already mounted a new attached disk, especially in Windows XP. But other file managers shows these disks without an issue. Without a help of other file managers you can run another proccess of Windows Explorer with additional parameter - "explorer.exe /separate". It's run a new process and don't inherit a glitches of previous already runned Windows Explorer.

...I am completely lost as to how that relates to my response.
All I way saying is that in Rockbox, showing the USB screen doesn't necessarily mean the device is mounted or there's an active data connection.

Yeah, cos you mentioning it was all that was needed.
We know there are USB problems. They aren't easy to fix. Somebody with the skills and the time needs to undertake some difficult and laborious work to try and figure out what the problem is. It isn't just a case of you being ignored, believe it or not.

i think i have a solution, because i had the same problem. here it is:
in your rockbox menu go to > settings > general settings > system > usb hide internal drive > no
i hope this helps.

I have tried the last solution presented by dunkelheit, and the sansa doesn't hang, it can give access to the Micro USB, and it hides the internal storage, but I have it already full, so no problem, I have a 32 Gigs memory card.
