IPOD Classic 7G Europe - Help understanding actual problems

(1/1)

Zanna83:
Hi guys!

I just bought a IPOD Classic 7G to be used on my car through the AUX-IN input. I would like to ask you some question on the benfits i can obtain installing rockbox and also on the cons!

I know that the european version of IPOD Classic 7G is volume capped. First question... using line-out instead of earphone connection the cap on the volume still exists or is bypassed ?

If not... (and i think so...),  installing rockbox will help me ? Will I definitively get rid of this stupid limitation ?

Rockbox actually is not officially supported by my device... which problem does it involves ? I read about problem while recognizing the charger, battery duration issues and so on.. my other question is : with the actual version of Rockbox, which unfixed problems still exists for my device ?

As you can notice my biggest interest is to get a strong line out volume to use with the car aux in without raising the general volume of the car too much!

Sorry for the great number of questions but i'm very interested in using rockbox!

The volume cap on European iPods is implemented in software by the OF. It doesn't apply to Rockbox at all.

The biggest problem with Rockbox on iPod classics currently is the relatively rudimentary boot and install procedure. The Rockbox iPod loader has not been ported to the classic yet, and so you have to install emCORE manually. emCORE cannot boot the original firmware, so what you have after installing Rockbox is effectively not an iPod. It can no longer sync with iTunes, for example.

If you need to be able to sync with iTunes or use the Apple firmware, you should not use Rockbox on an iPod classic.
