Rockbox Utility fails to load on an iPod (4 Gen)

(1/1)

Duddy03:
Hi.  I'm new to Rockbox.  I tried to install the Rockbox Utility software but I get an error message: "Error reading partition table - possibly not an iPod."  Windows Explorer on my Acer Win8 laptop detects the iPod when it is connected and iTunes starts but I can't see the device in Windows Explorer.  I really want to get Rockbox installed so that I will be able to manage my music files as I choose.  I need some help!  Thanks.

Make sure Itunes is shut down (i.e. not sitting in the systray anymore). It's known to interfere with installation. Also, unless you see the Ipod in Windows Explorer there is no way Rockbox Utility can install on it. Again, make sure Itunes is shut down. Last, if you get the "possibly not an Ipod" message you likely have selected the wrong drive letter in the "select your device in the filesystem" entry in the configuration dialog. What, if you don't see it in Windows Explorer, is also rather likely. You really don't want to install Rockbox to your C: drive :)
