Clip Zip crashes to "flashing screen" once connected to PC

So I rockboxed my Sansa Clip Zip using the latest stable release (3.13, I think?) and installation went smooth and I've been enjoying it for the last week. Time came to charge it, I connected it to the PC via USB...and at some point during the connection it crashed. It is not flashing a screen full of lines at roughly 1-second intervals like some sort of crazy strobe light, and is completely unresponsive.

Any idea what could have caused this or what the fix is, if any?

Does a hard reset (holding the power for at least 30 seconds) work? If not, just letting the battery run down should help

I tried hard reset, though I don't think I held it down for that long, so can't say. Left it flashing overnight and it was back to normal afterwards. If it happens again I'll see what (if any) are the repro steps and whether hard reset works!
