Sansa e200 automatically shutting down

Hallo,

My Sansa keeps shutting down after (any?) amount of time, including when it's on, & initial boot ( will light up, but doesn't turn on. ) When it's running , it runs normally. I think it's something hardware related? I think it's the battery just under the screen with tape on it as shown in this picture : http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200/pics/board2.jpg If that's what's causing this anyways is my best guess, I don't see anything wrong with it. What is that battery for? Will a sansa run fine without it? I haven't taken it off, but was hoping that replacing it might help?
