Help Request: Rockbox Utility (Not Responding)

(1/1)

nstarz:
MY player has been skipping songs lately. I check the MicroSD and they were fine, so I uninstalled Rockbox using the Rockbox Utility.

I tried updating the firmware in the sansa updater, but it seem to be stuck at 1%.

I am able to boot to Sandisk Firmware via left button + Power.

Any tips / or other things I can try?

Edit 1: I notice I can't put files in the internal memory now. I was trying the manual firmware update at http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Sansa-Clip/Sansa-Clip-Firmware-Update-01-02-18/td-p/280756

Your post is very confusing.

Without the link to the SanDisk forums, I wouldn't even know what device you were talking about.

The title states that Rockbox Utility is not responding, but the description makes little mention of Rockbox Utility except for removing Rockbox - with no further mention of whether or not it succeeded (I am guessing it did not, but you don't actually state this).

You then go on to mention the Sansa Updater failing, which is something you should be talking to SanDisk about.

If the SanDisk updater fails, as well as a manual update, then Rockbox Utility (or a manual installation of Rockbox) will almost certainly fail as well...as all it is doing behind the scenes it patching a firmware file and performing a "manual update" itself. Capturing the log from a failed install in Rockbox Utility may provide some more information, though.

As a side note, if you intend to keep Rockbox installed, there is no need to update the firmware manually using the Sansa Updater, doing so will uninstall the Rockbox bootloader (Rockbox will still be present on the internal storage, but you would have no way of booting it). The Rockbox installation process patches an original firmware file which you supply, so if you point it to the latest SanDisk firmware for your device during Rockbox installation, it will update the original firmware *and* install Rockbox.

Sorry, I was trying a lot of stuff from the manual.

The installation fails and stays at the not responding until an error saying it times out.

Basically the steps I took was:

1) Uninstall Rockbox
2) Try to re-install (but I get the Not Responding window)/// why does it fail, no idea.
3) Either the manual or somewhere I heard to "update firmware" to manual uninstall bootloader. So that's where the edit was about. (and I see you verified that) :D

I see the update firmware also fails. So I tried the manual way, but it seems windows hang when trying to copy the new firmware over.

So through all this troubleshooting, something about the internal memory doesn't like the new firmware. I tried resetting/formatting, but it doesn't seem to help. I am able to write a small text file on there, so it is writeable, so I'll keep working from there.

Edit 1:

Hm... so I can save a 30MB .txt file, but not a 15MB .bin file. I formatted it in Windows 7 to exFAT and FAT32... what is this mysterious force that blocks it...

Edit: Well, I switch cable...and it worked. So it was a bad USB cable problem. Hope this helps someone else if they run in the same problem.

Hm, I still have problem with music skipping. This happens in rockbox and the sandisk stock player.

Anyone got steps I can take to troubleshoot more?
