Hello! Does rockbox support Hard drive S.M.A.R.T. attribute view?
Hard drive is the weak element of the IPod Classic.
Original firmware can show few attributes while pressing buttons select+rew during rebooting. But to view it I need uninstall rockbox and format hard drive because rockbox doesn't fully support my player.
It will be cool if rockbox support it to.

The problem is that 1) SMART info vary from one drive manufacturer to the other 2) No one seems motivated enough to code something. We will happily review patch posted on gerrit though.

(Note: This was intended to be humorous. I do realize (rather hope) that both not knowing the patch existed, and the lack of review, are accidental)

The 5G iPod will show some SMART attributes in diagnostic mode. I think the 6G iPod also has diagnostic mode. Hold both rewind and the select buttons at power-on.

It's also possible to use smartmontools from Linux on iPods that can run Linux. I was able to get it to compile with the iPodLinux toolchain by removing some stuff from os_linux.cpp. I guess the 6G iPod can't run Linux.

To do this I need uninstall rockbox and delete all music  :'(

Even if it can run Linux I am not a programmer.
But I can donate some small amount of money to help. And already have donated.
I'll hope that the work will begin.
Rockbox is cool 8)
