I tend to use option #4 (as listed in appendix C) -- i.e. I place an image called "cover.jpg" in each album's directory.

Use a "Tag Editor" such as this: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html
And symply drag and drop the album art into the selected songs, and there you go.
If you want the album art to work with "Picture Flow", that's a different story. I am trying to figure that part out myself.
As far as I know, all you do is make a folder in the device called "Albums," and put the album art in it, with the corresponding album title as its title.. They also must be 100x100 and in bmp. (bitmap) format.
For example, lets say you have an album called Happy Days.
You would take the album cover you want, (use a picture editor of some sort, I suggest Paint.net, or Gimp.) Resize it to 100x100, and save as a bmp. image file, in the "Albums," folder in your device. The "Albums," folder must be in the main directory of the device, that means it is next to the ".rockbox" folder, not in it.

But, if you just want the album art for the WPS screen, and don't care for picture flow the easiest way is to use the Tag Editor, and just drag and drop.

Hope I helped.

Reece,

Where did you get this (mis)information regarding Pictureflow from?
(Serious question, if any of the documentation is making people think this...it needs to be corrected.)

If you were to look at our fine manual, you would see that pretty much nothing you said there is correct.

- Album art for Pictureflow does not need to reside in a specific directory
(it will be taken from any valid location for album art described in the manual - with the possible exception of embedded art which came about a long while after this plugin; I will look into this and correct the manual if necessary)
- Album art need not be any specific size
(images used may be any size, and may be non-square - images can exceed the physical dimensions of the screen and are scaled to meet the demands of the theme)
 - Album art need not be bitmap specifically
  (again, described in the manual)

I do not mean for this post to sound harsh, or aggressive (I am told sometimes I can come across this way), but I do find it bothersome that this is clearly documented and apparently we're failing in some way to get this information into the hands of users.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I have the album art of my music inside the dedicated folder as a file named  "Folder.jpg" because then windows explorer shows the folders of my music collection as the album art which looks nice. But the images must be in non-progressive .jpg format so that rockbox shows the album art in the WPS. IrfanView can show the information of the image and can convert the format into non-progressive .jpg too. Coverflow works perfectly this way, but sometimes when changing my files on the player I need to rebuild the cache to remove the grey squares with the question mark.

I might be wrong, but album art named "Cover.jpg" is shown more quickly (loaded faster), but this is just an observation and not measured.

I found the information on the wiki and in the manual quite easy to understand, but I can understand that it might be not easy for people who are new to rockbox and have no experience in working with images.

Would it be possible to provide a link to the thread where you found that procedure at ABi? I'm a member of the staff there and agree with Saint that it's best that misinformation be corrected.

With a link to the thread it would be possible to add a note that the information is incorrect and provide a link to the manual. I don't much use Picture Flow but I checked just now and when I followed the directions provided in the manual Picture flow worked as expected.
