Pause on Headphone unplug buggy/broken
« on: June 13, 2013, 07:51:38 AM »
I recently upgraded my internal harddrive and replace the display (due to dead pixel) of my ipod video g5.5. Since then, I was unable to properly use the "pause on headphone unplug" feature.

The issue:
Some cables/3.5mm jacks cause rockbox to pause and resume randomly, other don't do anything or only work when unplugging it quickly.

I have already replaced the contacts and thin cables a chinese replica, but this fixed nothing. Where else can the issue be? Is it a known software issue in the current builds? I tried both 3.13 stable and one of the most recent daily builds. Neither fixed the issue.

Does it work in the Apple firmware?

First time using the official apple crap firmware (thus default settings): unless I have to enable it somewhere (which I did not find), unplugging the headphones doesnt pause nor continue a paused song. It doesn't do anything at all, whatsoever...

I think it is supposed to, so perhaps that circuit is broken on your player.

can you tell me how it actually detects whether theres is a headphone connected or not? Is it a mechanical trigger, a closed circuit (eg audio itself?) or something else entirely?

The most obvious way to implement it would be to sense the impedance of the headphones on the amplifier output.

I think there's an actual switch in the jack. Inserted plugs press on it and activate it. The state of that switch is sensed.

If a plug is inserted, it is detected even if there's nothing electrically connected to it. This is with a 5G iPod but 5.5G should be the same.

If you replaced the assembly with the headphone jack and ribbon cables, then either the replacement is bad, the ribbon cable isn't securely plugged in, or there's a problem on the motherboard.
