Why is this necessary and how is this supposed to work?

When using the file browser you can simply put all podcast files in a folder "podcasts" (or similar). When using the database you can create a custom database view that shows all podcasts, given that all your podcasts can be identified by some tag.

Compare it to option given in original firmware. Podcasts are shown in separate tab, and they are not shown in music library.

FWIW most people are not familiar with this.  If you want to suggest something, you need to explain it otherwise people are going to ignore you.

We couldn't give a monkey's what the OF does, if something is a good idea then explain why it is a good idea on its own merits :)

The “Automatic resume” option does the trick for me.
