skipping tracks is quite slow
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:50:17 AM »
Hi there, when I skip tracks on my Sansa Zip the current track keeps playing for about 5secs and only after that the track changes.
With flacs it takes a little less time. Internal memory or sdcard is the same.

Neither my Clip+ or my Ipod5.5g do that, they stop the playback and they change track, everything in a quick fashion.

I'm running Rockbox 3.13

Very large album art can cause that. Would explain why the plus is faster, no album art on that target.

I use a theme without album art, there is a way to disable the background loading?

(not related, there is a way to display the album art like how the track info is displayed on the info screen?)

If your files are mp3 you might be hitting a bug that was recently fixed. Try a current version.

I had the stable 3.13
I've just tried the revision 3f4eeb8 (2013-06-10) but nothing changes.

I'm not an expert, but it sounds like the buffer is slow to change.
In the other players, when you press the button, the music suddenly stop and THEN the track changes;
instead, on this Zip the music keeps playing, then after some seconds, the track changes.

Slow processor and small memory means that if you load it enough there will be a delay.

I've been making some tests
I was using the Peakblue  theme on the Sansa Zip.
Then, I switched to the Blu theme, who HAS album art and I found out that it doesn't lag!
When you press next, the music stops suddenly and then the track changes quickly.

<= Peakblue | Blu =>

After some trials it seems to me that the laggy themes are not the ones full of images, with album art or some other things, but the ones with the peak meter!

That's strange, my old Clip+ handled the peak meter like a charm!

Any ideas about that?
