Opus files playing starts and stops within the same song and turns Nano slugish

(1/1)

myman:
The title is self explanatory.

-Ipod Nano 1st Gen
-Rockbox 3.13

After coming up with a couple of opus files using opus tools  (standart conversion), I used them in my Rockbox enabled 1st Gen Ipod Nano.

What happens, is that the opus file playing starts and stops about every 20 seconds of playing and turns the nano slugish, to the point that I need to reboot it because it almost freezes.

Another thing that appears while opus files are playing is the "(root)" word on the display.

All my Rockbox music files are in a "Music" directory that I've created. I never had a file playing (mp3, Flac) which showed the (root) word and that turned th nano slow.

This does no happen when playing classical file formats as the ones mentioned above.

Do I need t reinstall Rockbox?

Are there any particular specs to properly play Opus files (VBR, bit depth, etc)?

Thank you

saratoga:
Your player has a really slow CPU and the opus decoder isn't very fast yet. If you turn off all DSP effects you can use low bitrate opus though.

myman:
Thank you.

But all my DSp effects are off..

Perhaps if you go into the debug screen, and boost the CPU to its maximum value BEFORE you start playback, that might help. It will consume battery faster, though.

Otherwise, I'd consider converting the files to something less demanding, such as Vorbis or M4A.

saratoga:
I would be surprised if manually boosting makes any difference.  As soon as the PCM buffer begins to empty, the CPU will boost anyway and remain that way until its filled.

If you're trying to do something that requires more CPU power than you have, your options are basically to try to use less CPU or buy a player with a faster CPU.
