Installation of Rockbox on iRiver h340

(1/1)

Crimsonavatar:
Hi all

I tried installing Rockbox on my h340. I am running an iMac OS 10.7.5. I downloaded the Rockbox utility .dmg file, installed OK and then downloaded a fresh copy of the h340 firmware file (1.29 J, same as my current one). When prompted by the Rockbox installer, I selected my fresh .hex file, completed the installation, unmounted the h340, then upgraded the firmware. When I re-started the 340, Rockbox didn't appear. I tried several more times to no avail.

I then re-connected to the Mac and saw that there hadn't been any Rockbox files copied to the h340. When I download those files for a manual install, the folder looks empty, though it copies to the driver OK and I can see filenames being copied. I can't see any files on the iriver, just the rock box folder. Anyway, it still doesn't work. I have uninstalled, manually and automatically, and tried at least a dozen times now but with no luck.

Strangely. when I try to install again, even after downloading a new firmware file and re-flashing, I get a message in the Rockbox utility every time that says there is already a firmware file on the device.I have tried flashing all sorts of versions of the h340 firmware (except US version).

I'd really like to get this working as I have to pass the iriver on to someone who won't be able to use it with the native interface. Can anyone help, please?

Cheers

Alan

You should see the firmware file -- ihp_300.hex if I remember correctly. Apart from that you won't see any files -- Rockbox lives in a folder ".rockbox" which is hidden by OS X by default (since it is starting with a dot). When extracting a Rockbox build (i.e. zip file) manually make sure to not put them into a subfolder -- OS X' zip handling places files in a subfolder named the same as the original archive.

The version doesn't matter here, Rockbox Utility looks for the filename on the device. Make sure you have selected the correct mountpoint for the player -- choosing the wrong one is a common mistake, and for various players including the H300 it isn't possible to check this selection. Apart from that the H300 is known to sometimes require flashing the patched firmware more than once. But if I understood you correctly you already tried that. Did it show that it is updating the firmware?
