Need set of "clean-and-tested" songfiles to test defective Rockbox/Sansa ClipZip
« on: May 20, 2013, 03:32:32 AM »
My Rockbox/Sansa ClipZip won't initialize the database (details in my posting at http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,43101.0.html). Wondering whether there is something wrong with the song files I uploaded to the device I carefully read the manual re. file and tagging requirements. I've also spent a lot of time feeding the ClipZip subsets of my music files in an empirical attempt to eliminate possibly "bad" files. No success yet.

Now I'd like to turn the diagnostic attempts on their head and feed the ClipZip with a small set of tried-and-tested songs to see whether the problem lies with my songfiles or my installation of Rockbox. I'm assuming that the developers use such a test set and am wondering where it can be accessed. Does anyone here know where can I download them ?

You can enable database logging somewhere in the debug menu to find out on which file(s) it fails

Thanks for this.

I found the menu item "System -> Debug (keep out)" and am not sure what to do now. If it explicitly says "keep out" I'm left wondering what the menu item is there for. Anyway, it sounds as if it might corrupt the system.

Is there another route to enable database logging ?

Thanks very much for this link. I can't find anything in there which seems to relate to the Sansa ClipZip. Does this matter or should I simply select a set at random ? Do you have any suggestions ?

Don't worry about that "keep out". Most stuff under the debug menu is absolutely useless for regular users, and *some* of the items there might have unintended effects, but none of them should do long-term damage. The worst in there that I can think of is the CPU frequency setting where you can force "boosting" (i.e. make the CPU run at its highest clock speed regardless of need), which will drain the battery until the next time you power the player off.

The main reason it says "keep out" is that we don't want to have the forums full of questions about things in there :)

Aaah, thanks. I'll go in there and start the logging. Is it the item "Metadata log" ? That's the only Debug menu item which mentions the word "log". Where is the log file to be found once it's been written ?

P.S. I was amused to read your "The main reason it says "keep out" is that we don't want to have the forums full of questions about things in there :)". If you put a box on a street with the words "Do not look in this box" written on it you can be sure that 98% of the passers-by will look in  :-))

Those are test files; basically mp3s and such. They're just music and not specifically related to any player.
