re: database refresh on a low battery. is it possible?
gramps:
I have a sansa fuze v2 on rockbox for a while now.
my sansa fuze's battery is down to about 4 or 5 seconds of power. For the last year or so, I have been refreshing the database by unpluging the fuze from my USB and plugging it back in to give it power for the refresh (takes about 3 or 4 minutes).
I have found the USB mode to be unstable and don't refreshing under rockbox firmware, as it freezes the player.
I wanted to know if it was possible to initiate the refresh of the database under the sandisk firmware while it is still plugged in.
I would replace the battery, but read that it is too difficult.
thanks

But I'm thinking you already know this. Are you saying USB charging is unstable for you? How do you use it at all with 4 seconds of battery life w/o keeping it tethered?
gramps:
not USB charging, but USB syncing is the issue under rockbox firmware. i get the issue where you have to drain the battery overnight to get it responding again
My procedure for refreshing database with a 4 second battery life.
1. plug in USB which starts up original firmware. sync new music/podcasts
2. unplug USB cable to initiate the refreshing database procedure.
3. plug USB cable back in within 2 seconds or so to power the player during refresh.
4. unplug USB just as the the refresh finishes so that the data does not put the player back into sync modem having to refresh it again.
5. plug player into non-data usb cable to use it.
unfortunatley as the battery slowly but surely almost dies, i cant accomplish taks #4, as the player takes a few seconds to respond to a request to refresh.
saratoga:
So you're asking at the Sandisk firmware rather than the Rockbox database?
gramps:
its the only way i can get rockbox to run.
i only use sansa firmware to sync
