A "buzzing" noise and an audioscrobbler problem - Sansa Clip+
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:27:25 AM »
Hi,

I recently installed Rockbox on my Sansa Clip+ and I have a couple of problems.

1) There's a "buzzing" noise heard on one of my headphones (I use Sennheiser in-ears). I hear it when I listen to more quiet songs. It disappears when I turn the volume down, but then the music's too quiet.

2) Audioscrobbling won't work. Rockbox generates scrobbler.logs, but Rock Scrobbler won't scrobble because "Timestamp failed filter, too far in past". I tried to listen to just one song, then immediately plug the player in the computer, but the same error appears again.

Help?

Thanks in advance.

2)  Sounds like the date is set wrong?

You're right. I set the date right and now it's working. Thanks!

I have another question:

3) A 10 second recording I made using Rockbox is 1,82 MB large. A 10 second recording I made using the original firmware is only 400 KB. I realize there's probably a difference in quality of the recording, but I was pleased with the original quality, and I don't have enough space for such large recordings. Can I make a 10 second recording using Rockbox which takes only 400 KB?

You can probably make them smaller than that if you use compression ...

Set the recording to a lower quality, or sample rate etc.

Response to (1)
Do you still get it?

I get the same hissing noise in the background. It happens when you press a button, and then intermittently during the song playback.
I've tested it with different file formats, both with files on the internal and external memory.
It happens either way.

If I go back to Sansa Firmware, it doesnt happen.

My Sansa
It's on Revision 1 = 1.XX.XX (example: 1.XX.XX)
When I installed Rockbox the manual linked to 1.02.16 revision of the Sansa firmware, but on the forum they have 1.02.18 as the latest, which I used instead.

I'll re-do the firmware thing with 1.02.16 and test again.

Anyone else, there wasn't any further response to this issue; I will re-create a post if this doesnt go anywhere.

BTW, ROckbox is awesome!!  8)

Hi! I have exactly the same issue. Rockbox version is 3.13. The most interesting is that I can clearly hear this noise with Sennheiser IE4 earplugs (16 Ohms), but it's dead silent with Sennheiser HD590 over-ear headphones (120 Ohms)! Some impedance issue? Of course, I adjust volume to be almost equal in both cases. The buzz seems to be slightly different for each song, and it seems to be the same for the given song. And the stock firmware is almost silent (there are some small hisses and clicks on pause\stop, but they're almost inaudible).

Hmm, interesting. I quickly pulled out all the earphones I have (just been using my trusty Sennheiser CX300 in ears lately).
These other pairs unfortunately are all cheap ones; 1) the pair that came with my 1st gen ipod nano (2) those that came with the clip+ (3) creative HN700 over ear.

All the in ears make the noise, the HN700's doesn't. Not sure about the impedance of any of them...

You reckon the buzzing is the same for a given song; what do you mean? I can start up the Sansa, go to a song start it, get a buzz, shutdown, repeat and it will be the same noise in the first few seconds. But, if I listen say 10 seconds and skip back to the start, there is no noise.
The noise also appears just before the next song starts. And, if I hold down next and fwd say 2min into the song, it'll appear again. My guess from this is that it has to do with the reading/buffering/caching of the song.t

Sorry for late reply, forgot to subscribe to this thread. saratoga, thanks for the link. Looks like FS#11907 is exactly what we have here. Too bad there's no fix for it.
