Play two audio files at once

(1/1)

aussiechris:
Hi there.
I have been wondering if this feature exists in rockbox, but as I don;t know what it would be called, my searches have come up empty.

I am looking for a feature/plugin that will allow me to play 2 files at once (mixed together). I listen to a lot of spoken word podcasts and enjoy listening to music in the background. This feature would allow me to do this on my player without having to use two devices.

This feature could also be useful for other things too, like:
making pre-recorded announcements over background music
limited dj mixing
playing bird/ocean noises/guided meditation over relaxing music

The ability to play two files at once is obviously not completely out of bounds crazy as this happens anyway during a crossfade. I suppose it comes down to the buffering/processing speed.

So, does this feature (or similar) exist? If so, how do I find it? If not, how do I make it so, a they say.

Cheers,

Chris

As far as I am aware, this is possible - but not implemented.

Someone "just" needs to do the work. An example of this already being possible to some extent exists in the UI voicing system.

We have a mixer in the playback engine (we use it for voice support), so you can absolutely have multiple audio streams going at once.  However, we don't do anything like this in the main UI.  Plugins should be able to decode tracks and mix them with the main playback output, but I don't know of anyone doing something like this.

So I should be looking at plugin development then? I will have to do some research...
