Sansa Clip+ with Creative Zen Microphoto Remote? (TRRS Wired Remote)

I'm currently rocking the Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox which works great.

The only other MP3-type device that I use is the Creative Zen Microphoto - only because it offers wired remote capabilities used for when I ride my motorcycle.  I attach the remote to my jacket via velcro and it works great.

Would it be possible to program Rockbox to allow commands from this wired remote while running on the Sansa Clip+ (even though different devices)?  If this is possible from a hardware perspective, I'd be willing to help program the functionality.  Maybe this already exists in some form?  The wired remote is TRRS so I'm guessing the remote sends some kind of signal through the extra ring.

The Zen Microphoto is getting pretty ancient.  If this is not possible to do this through Rockbox on the Sansa, any alternative device suggestions would be appreciated.

There is no hardware to plug s remote into so writing software is not going to help.
