Installation / Removal > Rockbox Utility

A few questions with respect to Sansa Clip Zip & Rockbox.

Like I'm not even sure as to which stable version of Rockbox I have currently installed in my Sansa Clip Zip - all I know is that it's working wonders for about an year or so. Haven't really bothered to look for a newer version, but now I decided to move and see what this great community has to offer. So I went looking at some pages trying to find new releases for my Clip Zip and came down to the following page: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS - guess this is the correct page, right?

Though I have finally found where to download newer releases for my specific player model, I just can't seem to find any event logs or anything that lists all changes made from version to version (like do I really need to update my currently working firmware version kinda thing?). Well other than that it's all fine, and I really appreciate all the nice work and the excellent product you guys from this great community have made possible! I'm really delighted to have Musepack support for my Sansa, and also outstanding audio quality of course!

PS: just as suggestion, wouldn't it also be sweet to have some audio DSP support with Rockbox? I know most of them come not as free (like SRS for instance), and there may be hardware capability issues as well, but maybe there are some really good ones out there we could pretty much implement to make sound quality a bit more interesting perhaps? And I know there's some controversy as to whether or not audio DSP's make sound any better, but I guess this is a matter of personal taste. Players that have one such as the Philips GoGear Vibe do really benefit from DSP's, and I wouldn't say it sounds better than my Sansa with Rockbox, but just "different". Well just saying.

Not really. To find out about the latest Rockbox version see http://www.rockbox.org. As you can easily see from that page the Clip Zip is considered stable and the latest Rockbox version (which is 3.13 right now) is available for that player.

That page is for documenting the port of Rockbox to the Sansa AMS players. Since the Clip Zip is considered stable there is really not much use in checking that wiki page. See the front page, it also links the release notes for the latest Rockbox version. And you neither need to update Rockbox nor the Sandisk firmware if you're fine with the version you're running right now. If you only want to update Rockbox you don't need to update the Sandisk firmware.

I really suggest you to use Rockbox Utility, it not only shows the versions available for your player but also information like bootloader installation not being necessary on updates (it can't show the release notes for Rockbox right now though).

Okay. Here I'm just stumbling here and there trying to find out which version of Rockbox I'm using in my Sansa.

Like where the hell do I find that information inside the box?

bluebrother:
System / Rockbox Info

prankstare:
It shows version 41b4623-120330.

You said the latest Rockbox release was 3.13? Okay I'm a bit confused now.
