iRiver H300 with mSATA SSD

(1/1)

michaelbowe:
Hi, I thought the forum might be interested to know that I had success running a Toshiba 128 GB mSATA SSD in my iRiver H340. I slipped the SSD onto an adapter card and then fitted the adapter card with a ZIF to IDE 50 pin adapter and inserted it in to the player where the hard drive used to be. The original firmware doesn't recognise the drive at all but the USB can be used and I was able to allocate the drive, name it, and format to FAT32. I then loaded up the latest version of Rockbox and it came up flawlessly. So far the unit seems to be very light on battery power as well as being much lighter. I have my eye on the Mushkin Atlas 480 GB mSATA SSD.

It would be very helpful if You could post precise model number for SSD.

The mSATA is a 128GB Toshiba mini PCIe mSATA 3Gb/s 34nm SSD mSSD THNSNB128GMCJ. I bought it of eBay and I see that there are a few available now. The adapter is a mSATA SSD to 40 Pin ZIF Adapter Card which I purchased from microsatacables, also on eBay. The ZIF converter is a ZIF HDD,SSD to 1.8 inch TOSHIBA type converter which I bought from libmartcom in South Korea. There do not seem to be any of these items currently on eBay. They are a little pricey but very compact.

Hope this is useful.
