sansa fuze 2 how do I uninstall the rockbox
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:31:39 PM »
I tried several times to install RockBox on a Sana Fuze v.2. It appeared the installation worked but after ejecting device-- No RockBox. I've tried using the RockBox utility to uninstall but it didn't seem to work. Now, after removing all of my music form the device there's no space left. Can anyone advise me on this: How to put the device back to the way it was before I tried to install RockBox. Funny, but I didn't have this problem with another fuze.

Thanks

Provide the output of the Help / Troubleshooting / System Trace and System Info dialogs after trying to install. This sounds like you selected the wrong mountpoint.

You didn't remove all music from the player. Since you're using OS X (which you said in a different thread but unfortunately not here): OS X will not remove files. Instead it will move them into a hidden trash folder, thus it will require the same amount of space it needed before. On OS X this trash folder sits on the same device the files were -- i.e. they are still on the player. Empy the trash of your Mac while the player is attached.

I went back to the manual for sansa fuze v.2 to look at the uninstall instructions but I did not understand it in the context of my problem. It think RockBox did not install. I reconnected to my Mac os 10 and emptied the trash as you suggested but the device is still full. I opened the device because I seemed to remember that it (or some other device maybe) had a trash folder on it. There was no trash folder on the sansa. I seem to be missing something here. I will read the other items you've suggested as soon as I get time.
I do appreciate your help.

I just remembered something. when I wanted to remove the music form the sansa to make more space. I dragged the Music folder to the desktop of the Mac. Should I delete that file? is that what you meant?

Thanks

You said earlier that it wasn't installed successfully. How do you expect to uninstall something you haven't installed?

Yes. You missed the "hidden" when I mentioned the trash folder. It's hidden, so you don't see it. Unless you explicitly enable showing hidden folders in Finder, but that's not available via a menu so I don't think you have done this.

No. Besides, a folder is not a file. It's important to be specific here. Otherwise people can't help you.

You should:

1. clarify your goal. Do you want to install Rockbox or not?
2. remove unnecessary files from your player. Currently this is not a Rockbox issue at all.
3. if you want to install Rockbox post the contents of the dialogs I asked for earlier.

Thank you but I'm totally lost now.

I do want to install rockbox but I don't know what "the output of the Help / Troubleshooting / System Trace and System Info dialogs" is about. When I wrote that Rockbox had not installed I meant that it didn't appear on the player even though the installation appeared to be complete from the Rockbox installer/utility.
This is what I see when I plug the device into Dell Inspiron 9100 (XP Media Center Edition v. 2002 svp 3 32-bit) The folders: music, video photo etc. There is a dimmed .rockbox folder. I opened it and saw rbutil.log it says bootloader  sansa fuze v.2. The other two folders-rocks and wps- are empty. Next in the device folder are some files , which I could not open. The largest of these are fuzpa.bin (15,360 KB) and MTABLE.SYS (1819KB). I went to the devices properties to se what I could find, but no hidden folders or music. I know the music is there as you said because I found it while the sansa was plugged into the Mac. More about that below. I also saw dates indicating when several of these items were installed/modified--.rockbox and the fuza.bin on March 23 at the same time. I guess that was when I originally installed/tried to install Rockbox?

Next, I remove the device from my PC and plug it into my MAC. Please keep in mind that I only thing I see when I eject the player is “Not enough space for music db please remove 90nmb”, then the screen goes dark and I can’t access any functions. It’s the same when I turn the player on. So I’m unable to change the usb mode through the player. It seems to b e stuck in the mode for PC but I can’t really tell, except how things look when I open the player on either platform.

Now the sansa v2 is connected to Mac os 10.5.8. The player showa that it is connected and I can see the device on my desktop. Opening the player I see the some of the same folders as before, but some items are displayed differently. For edxample fuzpa.bin looks like a zip file (it’s a document icon with a zipper) as does the DID.bin. There are several .exe files (VIDEO_BM.SYS and the like ) which I cannot open and I don’t really know what they are. This includes the MTABLE.SYS that I mentioned above.

You’d asked for “the output of the Help / Troubleshooting / System Trace and System Info dialogs” I don’t know what these are unless they are the information I received about the status of the install form the RB utility? I do not know how to find the hidden folder either. However, when I right click the player while it’s connectd to the Mac, I see a “more” option with an arrow. Two options here: “enable folder actions” and “configure folder actions”. When I choose “Configure folder” actions a window opens and there are two choices: Volumes and Unititled. When I highlight Untitled lo and behold I see the music  files so I stopped herenot knowing what to do except the look at the MAC help menu but no luck. Sorry for the repetitiveness

Additionally, I’ve forgotten some of what I did throughout the install process. I do remember that when choosing the player to install, the utility indicated that the player it was wanting to choose was not the one attached,. I couldn’t change it so I installed anyway. Now, I’m sure that’s part of the problem
At this point , and after browsing/perusing the different forums, manuals, etc. I really don’t know were to look first and my brain and one eye are tired. I’m not sure what question to ask—except how do I find the music files hidden on my player and restore my player to it’s original condition and start over. Previously I’d written how easy the install was for my sansa v.1.
I know I’ve gone on and on but I wanted to be as complete as possible. I don’t have good keyboard skills so this was arduous for me.

Thanks for you patience
