Sansa E280 v1 part-working

(1/1)

Thrashbarg:
Hello,

I've been happily using Rockbox on my Sansa for many years.  Recently ran the updater (Rockbox Utility 1.3.1), and now it is behaving rather strangely.

What it WILL do:

* Boot into original firmware
* Boot into Rockbox
* Play music files searched for from the 'Files' icon in Rockbox
...so it is not bricked, thus I don't think I should use the Unbrick tool.

What it WON'T do:

* Build database in Rockbox (tries to initialise, but hangs at some point
* Play any tracks in OF
* Connect to computer (Win XP) - computer shows drives E: and F:, but both report 0 bytes
* The autodetect function in Rockbox Utility detects 'Sansa e280v1 series', but reports 'Could not detect a mountpoint. Select your mountpoint manually.'
I've had the back off to ensure that the flash chips are seated properly.

Any help gratefully received!  I'm not skilled technically though  :(

Many thanks in anticipation,

Gavin.

It rather sounds as though you are the proud owner of a corrupt file-system.

Hello [Saint],

Very many thanks for your reply  :)

I've tried to run chkdsk with the Sansa attached in both OF and Rockbox mode.  In both instances, the result is:

chkdsk e:
Cannot open volume for direct access.

Is it now time to say goodbye to my e280, or is there still hope?  I've already bought an 8GB Clip+ & 32GB SDHC to replace it, but I have the docking station for my old one which is rather handy.

Have searched the forum.  Similar questions don't seem to have a resolution, so I guess it will be 'goodbye'

Cheers!

Gavin.

Thrashbarg:
Yay! She lives!  :)

For non-technical people such as myself, I did need to follow the unbrick instructions (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaE200Unbrick).

Specifically, it seems to have been creating the sansa.fmt file in the recovery partition that did the job.  Hooray!
