ipod classic gen6 - improving your battery life
ignoramus:
Just an observation, but I found that when I installed the latest version of rockbox (on my 160GB ipod), the battery consumption seemed excessive.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think the battery in the latest ipod classic gen 6 video is 850 mAh.
When you install rockbox the default setting for v3.13 will be set at 550 mAh.
You can change this to 850mAh from the main menu in: settings|general settings|system|battery
It's early days but my battery seems to be lasting significantly longer than before I modified that setting.

By my understanding that will have absolutely zero impact on runtime. I suspect you created yourself a rather nice placebo effect, you believe it works the way you think it does, so you see an effect that doesn't actually exist.
This is only used for runtime estimation, which is slightly buggy/wrong anyway, and wouldn't give a correct value for this target even if it was set to the correct value.
I do have a patch that will detect if the device is the CE-ATA "thick" 160GB Classic (it is only this model that has the 850mAh battery I believe), and set this value accordingly, which I should remember to push, but as noted above it is of little importance.

That's correct. Also, there is no 3.13 for the 6g...

:-[ You are probably right Saint. I'm just a beginner with all this stuff.
I can confirm though, that the version I have installed is 9e7bd64-130313.
seems to work very well - has "frozen" a couple of times but a reboot fixes that and it's not frequent enough to be of real concern.
ignoramus:
I guess I installed that version because it was for the ipod video - which I thought was either 5G or 6G versions.
Looks like there is a current 6G version and Saint has already directed me to it in another post.
I will try it.
3.13 has been really good, will be interesting to compare.
