Hi there,

SanDisk just released their new Sasa Clip Jam. Are their any plans to make a compatible version of rockbox for it? Your team has made the best mp3 player firmware I've ever seen. Please keep it coming.

Since development since to have hit a plateau -- no updates in weeks -- why not realize the current version as 3.14?

It's getting there.
A release isn't really that different from a dev build, but it gives some users the promise of increased stability, which might not always be the case.
In fact, the current dev builds are supposedly more stable than the release builds on some targets.
For this reason, along with the long list of changes since the last release (see http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/MajorChanges), I think a release should be done.

A release isn't really that different from a dev build

A stable release port "runs well ... has a complete manual and is supported by the installer." https://www.rockbox.org/ (though currently there's some shortfall).

A development build is "generated from actively developed source, at times they may be buggy or even unusable." https://build.rockbox.org/

Could you please stop nitpicking? The current release is almost four years old and horrendously out of date. There have been nearly 2,000 commits since then... There's literally no reason to keep using 3.13.

If the difference between a dev build and release were a mere nit, you've got to wonder why the dev build hasn't made it to release.

And seems to be making no progress towards one. Despite the 2,000 commits and four years you mention.

Evidently you have no reason to use the latest release. Users who prefer "a stable release port that runs well ... has a complete manual and is supported by the installer" may do.

That isn't what the link says. Stable ports are ports we consider mature.  Nothing to do with releases.

Can we please stop wasting developers time here? If not that thread should get locked imo.

Stable ports are ports we consider mature.

Stable means a lot more than that. "In Rockbox, the term "stable" means that a port has the following parts completed..."

Nothing to do with releases.

Sure it is to do with releases. If a port is unstable, it is excluded from the release e.g. "Unfortunately we've had to drop the Ipod Nano 2g from the list for now due to serious issues with USB. We hope to add it in a later release"

No-one's wasting developer time. If a developer thinks replying is not worth his time, then he need not reply.

That link you posted explains why you were mistaken. Releases and stable ports are different things. A port can be made stable if it meets those criteria. A release is an old build prior to the current one. It is a mistake to confuse the two.

And yes you are wasting everyone's time. The wiki clearly explains this stuff. I know because I wrote it. If you don't take the time to understand it, you should not be posting about it.

This argument is pointless. I'm locking this thread.
