Device always connects to my PC as a "read-only" device.
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:12:32 PM »
I have a Sansa e280 v2, and I'm connecting to Linux Mint Nadia (14).

When I connect my sansa, I can't add or delete music. It displays various errors (one per app I try to use) regarding it being a "read-only disk/device". I have tried Banshee, Clementine and the File Manager. Last week I managed to add about 10 songs by putting them on the clipboard, connecting the device and quickly (seconds from connecting) pasting them in a folder within the Music folder.
About 1:30-2:00 min after connecting it, it becomes read-only. I've never had this issue before. Granted, I hadn't used my Sansa in about 5 months (it already had Rockbox installed). I tried re-installing the firmware and the error persists. Any idea of how I can fix this? Thanks! :)

Usually linux mounts a corrupted file system as read only.  Check the file system for errors.

You'll need to find out what device it's mounted as, then unmount it if it's mounted.

Replace my sdX with what you find in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages when you plug it in.

umount /dev/sdX
dosfsck -a -w -v /dev/sdX

Edit: It might be an idea to boot into the original Sansa firmware before plugging it in, USB is pretty unstable on AS3525 targets at the moment.
