Fried Headphone Output - iRiver iHP-120

I managed to fry the headphone output in my iRiver iHP-120. I now get no sound via the headphone out, line out and line in still work fine.

I found the circuit for the audio section and it looks like there isn't really much in between the headphone socket and the UDA1380TT chip, so I'm guessing part of that is at fault? Does that sound like a fair assumption? I've not opened it to check for signs of damage yet.

For reference this is how I ended up frying the headphone out: I found an old set of active/powered PC speakers in the garage and decided to try them with the iRiver (a mistake to test £5 speakers with £100 audio equipment!). I got sound out initially but when I raised the speaker volume there was a loud feedback noise at which point I shut them off. After this the headphone output was dead. It was only then I remembered that I had previously modded these speakers to work passively by connecting the input directly to the speakers. I never intended them to be used powered like this, but I forgot to undo the mod. I guess this would have the effect of creating a feedback loop with the amplified signal going back into the amplification stage in the speakers and the iRiver? and diodes might have prevented this.

Anyway, obviously the iRiver is my main concern. I have spare chip I could try but the soldering will be a bit tricky and as the line out is still working I'm a bit reluctant. I've posted a question on another thread about using headphones in the line out, but any thoughts on this fault appreciated.
