iPod Gen 5 - starts in Apple mode when inserting cable
(1/1)
jakobmagnusson:
Hi!
iPod gen 5, Rockbox 3.12
When the player is shut down and I insert a "docking cable" (to the flat connector port under the touch pad) the player starts up, and in Apple mode. This happens both with a charger cable and when connecting to the PCs USB.
It's not a major issue, but a bit disturbing..
Is there a way to avoid this from happening?
Thanks in advance for any hints.

Is your hold switch on?
jakobmagnusson:
Hi,
Thanks for answer.
I'm not sure if hold switch has been engaged or not before (probably it has mostly).
When I try now
With Holdswith engaged: Apple
Without holdswitch: Rockbox
So I guess the problem is solved.
Follow up question: If I dont want the player to start rockbox when putting in the cable (holdswitch off) is there any setting I can use?
Thanks,
Jakob

Rockbox only ships bootloaders which boot Rockbox by default. One would need to modify the bootloader themselves if they want something different.
The IpodLinux bootloader did give one a boot menu which would launch Apple OS, Rockbox, or IPL. I'm not sure if it is still available, or if it still works with Rockbox. Bootloaders aren't just simple dumb program launchers, they also often initialize the hardware in a quite specific manner.

Hi,
Thanks.
Your answer is slightly technical, but I interpret it as there is nothing I can do.
Except for switching off the hod switch when putting the cable in ;)
Many thanks, I regard this as solved nod.
