I am on my third Clip Zip. The first one I ordered to replace my worn out rockbox'd Fuze V2. The first clip zip was great for about 7-8 months, then the screen backlighting went to hell and half the screen was blacked out. So I sent it in to Sansa for RMA. The replacement was ok at first, so I swapped my 16gb Class 10 mini sdhc card over full of approx 11gb of music after rockboxing it...noticed it would freeze at the boot screen no matter how long I let it sit there. I finally got it to boot into the main menu, but it would play a song or part of a song and freeze again, unless the sdcard was removed. Then it would unfreeze. Yet my phone (samsung i927, both stock and on rootbox), pc, and even camera have no issues using/reading the card. My phone and PC can play load music off the sc card fine. Hell even the stock ROM on this clip zip loaded the music just fine. Seems to have issues when making a database? I don't know. Anyways that one formed a problem a couple weeks in where the headphone jack was installed a little off so unless you pushed the hp jack really hard into the port and kept pressure only one channel would play. So I sent that one in for RMA for that issue.
So here I am with the third ClipZip fresh from RMA on monday. Load up rockbox, slap in my sd card...bam. Same issue. Freezes constantly when reading the sd card. Stock ROM reads it fine. I formatted it. I ran checkdisk on it. I tried reloading music one album folder at a time, one music file at a time. No change. This one will however generally boot into the menu ok, and will generally play through about half of a song, but that's it, then it freezes. I can remove the sdcard and it will go back to the menu and perform fine. I can then re-insert the sdcard and it will re-read, I can go into database and start to play another song only to have the same thing happen again. If I just leave it frozen, nothing will happen and it will run out of batteries like it's stuck in a read loop or failure loop.
I have tried many versions of rockbox, dev and RC and an older one from a thread where a guy claims that his tweaked release may help. It didn't. Again, I can put this SD card in my phone, loads up no issues. On my pc, loads up no issues. Camera, loads up no issues. Clip Zip in stock ROM, loads up no issues. Rockbox, issues.
I have tried to add details, I have googled and searched threads, read quite a few people having this issue and most get a single repsonse, some none, some maybe a handful. No solutions found that way. I am wondering if there are any solutions out there? I prefer rockbox having used it for years now, and the reason I bought the Fuze V2 years ago and the Clip Zip to replace it last year. The stock ROM on the ClipZip sucks in comparison, so it's pretty frustrating that I am forced to use it if I want to use an SD card to store music over the smaller amount of internal memroy. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Maybe this thread will be the one where a solution is found? Maybe someone has a link to something I missed?
