Multiple embedded album arts
« on: February 23, 2013, 10:07:05 AM »
Hi,

I am a new Rockbox user and having a great experience so far! I'm using the release candidate for the Sansa Clip Zip and have noticed that - now hear me out ;-) - album art is not appearing for some files.

I realise that this topic has been discussed heavily, however I believe my angle may be slightly different. I completely retagged my music library over a period of years, to allow it to work with a particularly picky Sony Walkman. All files are using ID3 v2.3, with modestly sized jpeg album art. But square, definitely square album art, all stored as 'Cover (Front)'. My tool of choice for this job was EasyTAG.

The vast majority of the files work without issue, however I figured out that there was a degree of commonality across all of the ones that didn't work: they have multiple arts embedded (eg. Inlay / booklet / cd scans). This level of meta data madness is reserved only for my favourite albums, however it would appear to interfere with how Rockbox is handling the album art on the Sansa.

I guess the reason I'm posting is to ask whether anyone else has encountered this sort of thing, and how did they deal with it? I was considering  the following approaches:
-Figuring out a way to 'hide' the additional cover art from Rockbox - maybe by experimenting with the picture type
-Batch extract the additional art from the files, save them, then delete them from the tags
-Delete the additional art from all but the last track from each album (so when I play the album the art will be visible most of the time).

I realise there are tool for extracting embedded art, but which is best in my case. Ideally it would need to be able to extract  *all* picture types and name them (maybe in the form of album_name_picturetype.jpeg) so I could archive them for another day.

cheers,
