Rockbox won't boot on Ipod Video 5G 256GB SSD
(1/1)

Hello everybody,
I got a 5G Ipod Video, which originally came with a 30GB drive. I swapped the drive with a SuperTalent ZT2 256GB SSD drive, which has a ZIF-connector.
When using the original firmware, the Ipod shows a capacity of 223GB, but starts to get into a reboot loop, when I put too much music onto it (~130GB).
Anyways, I wanted to install Rockbox onto it, but it just won't boot.
I already tried the automatic and the manual installation several times.
After the automatic installation is complete, the program says that ejecting the ipod failed, due to some program access in the background.
When I force-eject and reboot the pod, it only shows the apple logo for a few minutes and then the message, that the rockbox image failed to load.
Do you have any ideas how to fix that?
I'm looking forward to your answers!

There are known issues with SSDs in rockbox. Torne is looking at the issue.

Hello robthejob,
the SuperTalent Dura Drive ZT2 256GB SSD is known to work with the OF and Rockbox. mSATA interfaces cause problems. There must be some other issues, like a faulty drive (just guessing). Look for more information in this forum section and on head-fi.org
Greetings,

Thanks for the tip, ck.
I hAve to get a ZIF-SATA-Adapter first, before I can check the hard drive. At the moment the hard drive isn't working at all anymore. When I turn on the ipod it says "very low battery" for some time and then shows the dead ipod icon.
It works fine with the original HDD, though.
I will keep you guys informed ;)

If it doesn't work in the Apple firmware then that's a different problem and I'm not going to fix it ;)
