HD problems with Archos Jukebox Recorder 10 (V1)
« on: February 21, 2013, 10:13:27 AM »
Hello,
the reason I got here was my problems with my Jukebox Recorder. I have spend many hours googleing my problem and the first steps I was succesfull. My recent problem with this guy is, that it does not read the 10GB HD properly. I connected it with an 2,5" to 3,5" adapter to my PC and formated it and my PC does recognize it as the HD it is (Hitachi 10GB). However when plugging it into the Jukebox it does not recognize it and says it needs FAT32 system and I should formate it (in fact it is FAT32). However when connecting the Jukebox with the PC via USB to formate the disc (tried with two PC actually with win XP and win 7) it only finds 1,36GB HD and is not able to formate it.
Can anyone hep me? Might the HD be the problem or is it the Jukebox itself?

Thanks for your time and sorry for my English as I am from Germany.

Greetings

It is good that your computer can see the HD when it is in the Archos Recorder, as this shows that there are no major connection problems in the Archos.

You should re-connect the HD to your PC, go into Disk Management (right-click Computer, click Manage), and check that there is one partition on this disk which is of type primary. If this is not the case, remove any existing partitions and create a new primary partition (perhaps do this anyway). Then format it as FAT32. Do a full format (not quick) as this will check for any surface errors.

Then re-connect the HD to the Archos.  Good luck!

You could try doing the procedures I mentioned before, but with the HD installed in the Archos and the Archos connected to the PC with a USB cable. Delete and recreate the partition using Disk Manager and full format it as FAT32.

Also tried this. However both PCs recognize the Archos with 1.36 GB, not the 10 GB and formation within the Archos via USB is not possible as mentioned in my first post.

I bought a new 80GB harddrive and still experiencing the same probelms: it is not possible to formate the disk within the Archos. Moreover the option to formate as FAT32 is missing. I only got the options to formate as exFAT and NTFS.

Try using Swiss Knife http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-411-swissknife to repartition/reformat the drive.

Thanks for the reply. Swissknife crashes when I select the drive (within Archos, connect via USB, WinXP). With Win7 it does not work at all.

I tried two other partition solutions and nothing works. I think the Archos seems to have any kind of problem to read the HD in a proper way. Is there any way to test that or to repair that?

Eidt:
I tried formating the new disk within my PC and was succesfull using SwissKnife without problems. Its a 80 GB and is seen correctly within the PC. However when connected with the Archos via USB with the PC I only see 66 GB. Reminder: With the old 10GB HD I also saw less GB (1.36 instead of 10). I think there is a problem within the Archos seeing/scanning the HD. What do the experts think?
